It’s hard to believe that we’re almost at the end of 2018! But before we bid this year adieu, we want to celebrate surviving the last 11 months by doing a bit of fun reading with all of you. Last year, we had #LoveOzYA Month – which was heaps of fun – and so this year we wanted to do something equally exciting!
Say hello to Throwback Month! That’s right! We’re going to be rereading some of our favourite YA novels and reminiscing about what we read years ago. Remember the days of The Hunger Games and Divergent and Twilight? The days where we all fangirled over the movie release of City of Bones and cried over the ending of Allegiant? We’re going to be experiencing those feels all over again next month during Throwback Month!
Whether you read those novels as a teen or if you’ve never read them before, we hope you’ll join us for our month of fun. There’s going to be a bingo challenge, and virtual viewing parties, as well as special content! We’re super excited about Throwback Month, but today we’d like to introduce the main element of the month – the bingo challenge!
If you’ve participated in a bingo challenge before, you’ll probably know how this works. But for those of you that haven’t, please scroll down to check out the rules. There are also prizes to be won, so make sure you get involved!
Rules:
- You can choose any line containing five squares, either horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.
- You cannot choose the same book for more than one square.
- Each book you read must be generally classified as YA and must have been published before 2013.
- You may choose any YA novel published before 2013 novel for the Free Space, as long as you have not used that novel to fill another square.
- All books must be read between December 1 and December 31.
- You may reread a book you have previously read, however you cannot reread a book and use it for more than one square.
Prizes:
Up for grabs is one $30 book voucher for the participant that completes all 25 squares on the bingo board. If there are multiple people who have completed all 25 squares, only one person will be selected randomly to win the voucher. Open international.
There are also two $20 book vouchers to be won, which will be awarded to the people that complete at least one line of the bingo board, and present this as creatively as possible. You may choose to share what books you read as a part of the Bingo Challenge in a video, or a blog post, or any other means you choose.
To go in the draw to win the bingo challenge prizes, please provide where you will be posting about the Throwback Bingo Challenge in the comments so we can check out your progress! You can send us links to your entries via any of our social media platforms, or leave the link in the comments section below.
We’ll contact the winners of the prizes during the first week of January.
May the odds be ever in your favour.

I LOVED the #LoveOzYA challenge you ran last year, it reignited my love for Aussie stories and I discovered so many great books. Love the idea of Throwback Bingo and I know it will be a great month of bookish fun. I don’t know how much I’ll be up for participating, but are the books supposed to be published before a certain date? Just checking after seeing the rules for “free square”, where it says pubbed before 2013. Thanks for hosting and hope you get lots of people joining in 🙂
