Sarah Robinson-Hatch
Hello, YA Roomies! As co-creator of The YA Room, I’m thrilled to announce that it’s the beginning of a new era here! That means two new co-hosts and a whole lot of exciting stuff taking place behind the scenes that we can’t wait to share with you.
Those of you that have been following us for a while now will know me, but let me introduce myself to all you new YA Roomies! My name’s Sarah, I’m a student who thrives off too much coffee and working under pressure, and I spend more time in bookshops and at Starbucks than I do at home.
Some of my favourite books include…
As well as reading into the early hours of the morning, I also like to blog at Written Word Worlds and spend too much time on Pinterest when I should be writing. I’m always working on something new – at the moment, I’m splitting my time between a YA paranormal novel and a YA crime novel. I like my stories queer and my characters’ wit sharper than my eyeliner.
When I’m not writing, reading, or drinking copious amounts of coffee, you can find me planning my next adventure or exploring new suburbs in search of the most aesthetically-pleasing cafe. Recently, I completed internships at Writers Victoria and Melbourne Writers Festival.
And on a final note, here are some of my favourite songs! You should definitely add these to your playlist if you need something else to listen to.
- High Hopes – Panic! at the Disco
- Favourite Record – Fall Out Boy
- The Pit – Imagine Dragons
- Non-Stop – Hamilton
- Heaven – Troye Sivan
- Lovely – Twenty One Pilots
I hope to see you at an upcoming Book Meet in Melbourne, otherwise you can catch me on YouTube or keep up to date with my adventures on Twitter!
Shaun Goodhue
Hi! I’m Shaun. I’m a blogger, a writer and a Kiwi. I’m addicted to Black Forest cake and an excessive amount of coffee. Originally from New Zealand (aka Hobbiton), I have turned from a country boy to a city boy. A wise choice, as I am absolutely dreadful at building fences and milking cows. I grew up on a dairy, beef and sheep farm with my mother, father and two older siblings. That’s right, I am the youngest child. The favourite child. And a “spoilt brat” according to my darling sister.
Ever since I could walk I have been wildly obsessed with books. At age ten I wrote my first trilogy. Honestly, it was more pictures than words. Now I am working on an epic fantasy novel about witches, mermaids and kingdoms at war! I love everything to do with witches except for Harry Potter, which I have never read – I’m sorry!
My writing playlist looks a little like this:
• Sorry – Halsey
• High Hopes – Panic at the Disco
• Back to You – Selena Gomez
• Believer – Imagine Dragons
• Take Me There – Adore Delano
• Don’t Blame Me – Taylor Swift
I am a huge fantasy nerd. Some of my favourite books include: Give the Dark My Love by Beth Revis; Clariel by, my lord and saviour, Garth Nix; and Kiss of Deception by Marry E. Pearson. Oh, and Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson.
But I am not just all about the books. I live on twitter and Instagram. My diet consists of far too much cake, 7/11 sausage rolls and cookies and cream ice cream. I’m still a country boy at heart, and enjoy hiking and exploring the bush. If I had to choose between a dog and cat, I will always choose a dog. Always! When I’m not at work you can find me in my study writing my master piece… or ripping my hair out.
I am super excited to be a part of the YA Room Season Two, and can’t wait to share some amazing bookish experiences with everyone!
Bianca Breen
Hello, Roomies! I’m Bianca, a Hufflepuff. I’m from Perth but moved to Melbourne earlier this year when I heard this was where the best literary nerds are. I’m a creative writing student and café frequenter. When I’m not in Melbourne, I’m searching for dead Welsh kings in Henrietta or adventuring in the Land of Ooo.
I have an unhealthy obsession with the How to Train Your Dragon franchise (and, yes, they were books first.) I own seven editions of the first book… for now. I want to be a Viking when I grow up.
Some of my other favourite books include:
I’m a writer, and in the middle of editing the first book in a young adult fantasy trilogy about lost kings, magical forests, sassy boys with black hair, ghosts, and sentient swords.
I have several other novels I’m dabbling in, including a gothic romance, a middle-grade series about supernatural wolves, and a few young adult fantasy stand-alones with plenty of mythical creatures, adventure, and enemies-to-lovers tropes. You can view their boards on my Pinterest, and I’m often wailing about them on Twitter.
Some other pointless things to know about me are that I don’t like blue M&M’s, I play the violin, I’m terrified of sloths, and I can rap Alphabet Aerobics (just not very well.) I’m so excited to starting this new book-ish journey, and can’t wait to fangirl with you all!
