What’s Been Happening in the World of YA?

How are we already more than a quarter of the way through the year? These past three months have absolutely flown by, full of amazing launches, brilliant events, and more books than we can keep track of without Goodreads’s help. So we want to celebrate everything we’ve done in 2018 so far!

Penguin Showcase

What an incredible night! We both had such an amazing time at the Penguin Showcase last year, where we heard all about the upcoming YA novels we could get our hands on, but this year the showcase was even more of anticipated event. And that’s because we got to see Love, Simon! Eleni Hale and Margot McGovern were also in attendance, and it was lovely to get a chance to chat with them. Love, Simon was definitely the highlight of the night though — we laughed, we cried, and we ate more Oreos than we probably should have. It was amazing.

YA Day

At the end of January, we had our most anticipated bookish event that we’d been planning for over six months — YA Day. YA Day was a one day bookish convention, where we had four panels, thirteen guest panelists, and over 80 people in attendance! We’d never done something as ambitious as this event, but we couldn’t be more thrilled with how the day turned out and the amount of support we received. We can’t wait for YA Day 2019!

Ironheart Launch

February was easily one of the busier months for book launches, and it started with the launch of Valentine’s sequel, Ironheart. Jodi McAlister’s writing style is so dark and mysterious and she’s so fabulous to listen to. She was in conversation with a #LoveOzYA fave, Nicole Hayes and she asked amazing questions. Also, did we mention there cake? You can check out our vlog of the event here!

White Night Launch

You all know how much we adore Ellie Marney, so it should be no surpirse that we booked our tickets for this event straight away. Ellie Marney was joined by Lili Wilkison in a series of questions that touched on cults, reality tv shows and everything in-between. We also vlogged the event here!

Love, Hate and Other Filters Book Meet

Seeing as we didn’t have a Book Meet in January due to YA Day, this was our first official time in Dymocks talking all about our Book of the Month! We were joined by a great group of people, and as usual, we had a lovely afternoon. Make sure you come along to our upcoming Book Meet on Sunday! They’re always a lot of fun.

Tin Heart Launch

Look, another #LoveOzYA book launch! We absolutely adored Shivaun’s debut novel, Tin Heart, so of course we had to attend the launch of Tin Heart! Check out what went down in our vlog below.

Obsidio Launch

LOOK! WE GOT TO BE IN CONVERSATION WITH THESE TWO SUPERSTARS! We’re honestly so honoured to have been asked to help launch Obsidio with Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. This has definitely been a highlight of our year so far!

CBCA Night

We were lucky enough to be invited to the CBCA Night to talk about six of our favourite #LoveOzYA novels of 2017! Check out which phenomenal books we mentioned in our vlog below – and how we got lost in the middle of nowhere!

  1. I’m seeing so much about YA Day that I am getting seriously jealous! I’m already looking forward to coming along to YA Day 2019 🙂
